From Michigan State Athletics:
In a step to remain on the front edge of the Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) landscape, Michigan State, in partnership with INFLCR, has launched Michigan State Exchange – a platform to link Spartan student-athletes with businesses specifically interested in partnering with them. To register with Michigan State Exchange and connect with Spartan student-athletes on NIL deals, visit MSUSpartans.com/Exchange.
Michigan State Exchange, a free service to both student-athletes and businesses, will provide a customized portal where businesses and student-athletes can communicate, negotiate and enter NIL transactions.
“As Name, Image and Likeness evolves, we are continually looking for ways to help our student-athletes maximize their opportunities,” said Alan Haller, MSU Vice President and Director of Athletics. “We’ve provided education and branding tools through the EverGreen program since the inception of NIL, and Michigan State Exchange is an innovative way to offer an additional level of support by providing a platform for our student-athletes to connect directly with interested businesses in a manner which is both transparent and compliant. Simply put, NIL opportunities will now be at the fingertips of our student-athletes.”
Registered businesses can search, filter and initiate conversations directly with student-athletes regarding NIL opportunities. Student-athletes will be able to view all the businesses in the exchange and negotiate terms on any NIL deals they would like to pursue. INFLCR and Michigan State are not a party to the negotiations.
Once the deal between a registered business and a student-athlete is finalized, the business will use the Michigan State Exchange to create a transaction that will produce a direct payment to the student-athlete (without any transaction fee). All disclosure and payment data automatically reports to Michigan State’s existing INFLCR compliance portal, and any payments processed using this tool will be reported on a consolidated 1099 for more efficient tax reporting for the student-athlete.
“Michigan State Exchange provides a streamlined and compliant process for student-athletes to find local monetization opportunities,” said INFLCR President Jim Cavale. “Michigan State is home to deeply rooted Spartan traditions, so their INFLCR Local Exchange offers a portal for that tradition to be celebrated across East Lansing and the state of Michigan. Adding the exchange platform creates tremendous value for their student-athletes when paired with their INFLCR supported NIL program, EverGreen.”
