From Syracuse Athletics:
Syracuse University continues to push its cutting edge ACCELERATE Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) program forward with the launch of the ACCELERATE Exchange — a program to link Orange student-athletes and businesses. A custom design for Syracuse Athletics, the ACCELERATE Exchange is a student-athlete business registry to connect businesses, donors, alumni, and other interested parties with student-athletes. The ACCELERATE Exchange will provide businesses, donors, alumni, and other interested parties a clear and consistent approach to working with Syracuse student-athletes on NIL opportunities. The ACCELERATE Exchange will also put Syracuse student-athletes directly in control of the communication, negotiation, and execution of any NIL opportunity that comes their way, all through a streamlined, easy-to-navigate platform.
“From day 1 of NIL we have sought to do everything we can to help our student-athletes take advantage of their NIL opportunities,” said Director of Athletics John Wildhack. “The ACCELERATE Exchange is the next step that we are taking to make those opportunities more abundant for our student-athletes as well as inviting our business partners, donors, alumni, and any other interested group or company to work directly with our tremendous student-athletes in a fully transparent way.”
Syracuse expanded its partnership with INFLCR to create the ACCELERATE Exchange as a handpicked early adopter and will be one of only nine schools in the country that will have access to this new technology beginning November 30th, 2021. The collaboration between Syracuse and INFLCR will transform the NIL experience for student-athletes, businesses, donors and alumni. The ACCELERATE Exchange will combine with the entire suite of INFLCR products to create a truly unique, one-stop platform where student-athletes can now actively bring NIL opportunities right to their fingertips from local and national businesses, donors and supporters, as well as alumni from all over the world, in addition to finding education on NIL topics, comparative data, market research, social media growth and engagement.
“When we took stock of where NIL was in its first three months of existence, we thought about what will be next,” said Associate Athletics Director for Compliance Mark Wheeler. “We quickly realized that the second phase of NIL at Syracuse would be taking a more active role in helping our student-athletes make connections with businesses, donors, alumni, and so many amazing people who love Syracuse and want to collaborate with Orange student-athletes. INFLCR helped us make that vision a reality with the ACCELERATE Exchange. This expansion of our partnership will benefit of our student-athletes in an impactful way.”
Businesses, donors, alumni and any other interested parties who register in the ACCELERATE Exchange will be able to connect directly with student-athletes by searching for individuals or teams to initiate conversations regarding NIL opportunities. Student-athletes will have the opportunity to negotiate and agree to terms on any NIL opportunity they would like to pursue. Once the NIL activity has taken place, the ACCELERATE Exchange will allow the business, donor, or alumni to facilitate compensation the student-athlete directly without any fees or commissions. At the end of the calendar year, the ACCELERATE Exchange will generate one 1099 tax document for each student-athlete, well in advance of the tax filing deadline.
